The Volvo P1800 Coupe from'1961 has to be one of the most stylish and successful cars from Volvo's short history. Built as an extremely lightweight sports car with a hard body and a powerful engine, it was meant to compete with sports cars of its time. Volvo however had no intention of building such a car and in fact started the process of creating this new line just two years before the Volvo P1800 coupe was born. However, what started off as just a concept turned into the company's most successful model ever, with Volvo logging five hundred thousand sales for their sedans in just ten years.

Although the name of the coupe was chosen quite arbitrarily, it was meant to be a 'halo effect' - something sleek and sexy that hid any under-steering issues and which also hid all the awful things about a Volvo. I love to present works that challenge our perceptions of the world around us. For example, our relationship to advertising visuals and slogans is often a complex one. When we take these artificial concepts, and combine them with an example of humanity that has been stripped down to its core, the results can be quite fascinating.
