Description
The first Ferrari 250 GTO was introduced in Italy in 1963 and the very next year it won the prestigious Drivers' Championship. Since then it has won many other prestigious championship including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Italy, and the Salon International de auto. The production version was redesigned for the Gran Turismo series and entered into the American market in 1965 as the CT with a different body style and the same high quality engines. Production continued until 1971, when the last model was withdrawn from the market.
The new stylish and advanced Gran Turismo T came on to the markets and was developed by Bizzarrini, headed by Luciano Bicchieri. The new bizzarrini design included the new two-pipe exhaust, which allowed better performance and power from the flat exhausts introduced on the previous models. The new body style retained the long slender windscreen concept introduced on the previous models but was given a more sporty and dynamic look. The new blizzard sporty styling was accompanied by many design changes which were aimed to reduce weight and make the car much faster.
The bodywork was redesigned again to gain a more aerodynamic look and the new triangular grille was adopted from the 1960 GTO and used on the new bizzarrini racing cars. The new kidney shaped 'S' picked out by the stylist Luciano Bicchieri stood out at the front of the car, the air vents in the roof of the car were also relocated to help cooling and air flow. There were also some small changes made to the suspension system, which made the car much lighter without compromising the high level of comfort. The new Ferrari 250 GTO was designed by Pininfarina and ran on the new GTO Specification during the season of the 1960 season, which was part of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
