This portrait is a powerful visual image of sensuality. There is something mysterious about the beautiful, red-haired woman. Whether she is an artist, actress or just a friend is up to the viewer to decide.
The face is framed by her red hair. Her eyes look at you penetratingly... Or is she looking through you at something that demands her attention. You don't know.
This makes this simple painting very powerful and it can be interpreted as either something romantic or something sad.
Jan Keteleer is known for the ethereal light that his paintings often contain. In the beginning of his career he painted mostly purely abstract landscapes. Later in his career he began to incorporate more human figures.

I love to present works that challenge our perceptions of the world around us. For example, our relationship to advertising visuals and slogans is often a complex one. When we take these artificial concepts, and combine them with an example of humanity that has been stripped down to its core, the results can be quite fascinating. I am a Belgian artist with interests in both classical and contemporary art. I particularly love the opportunity to bring those things together in the most unique ways I can imagine. While you can find examples of holiday pieces, or tranquil scenes of nature or animals, I am particularly fond of pieces that combine classic art elements with modern sensibilities.
